2nd Bronze Star in Vietnam

U. S. Army, Vietnam

Army Specialist Four John W. Maner, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John E. Maner of Villa Rica, Ga., received the second
award of the Bronze Star Medal Oct. 5, 1968 in Vietnam.

Specialist Maner received the award for heroism in action
while engaged in ground operations against a hostile force
in Vietnam.

A grenadier in Company A, 1st Battalion of the 25th Infantry
Division's 27th Infantry, Specialist Maner entered the Army
in August 1967 and arrived in Vietnam last February. He has
also received the Purple Heart.

The 25 year old soldier attended Villa Rica High School and
was employed by Pan Coatings, Atlanta before entering the Army.

For heroism in connection with milltary operations against a
hostile force: Private First Class Maner distinguished himself
by heroic actions on 3 March 1968, while serving with Company
A, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry the Republic of Vietnam. During
the initial attack by an enemy force, Company A sustained numerous
casualties. With complete disregard for his own safety, Pvt Maner
voluntarily crawled through intense enemy fire and evacuated his
fallen comrads. His valorous actions contributed immeasurably to
the success of the mission. Private Maner's personal bravery and
devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the
military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit,
the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
